Letting Go of Old & Dead Situations: Trusting God With What’s NexT

There’s something powerful about knowing when it’s time to let go. Whether it’s a relationship, a job, or even a mindset, holding onto what no longer serves us only keeps us stuck. Sometimes the hardest thing isn’t knowing that it’s over, it’s having the courage to release it. But here’s the truth: when you let go, you make room for what God has in store.

In Matthew 4:18–20, Jesus called Simon Peter and Andrew while they were fishing. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed him.

Think about that for a moment. They didn’t negotiate, they didn’t cling to their boats, and they didn’t insist on bringing the old with them. They dropped what was familiar the very nets that represented their livelihood, and followed Jesus into the unknown.

That’s what letting go looks like. It’s a radical trust that God’s plans are better than what we’re trying so hard to hold onto.

Why Letting Go Matters

  1. Dead weight slows you down. Just like carrying extra baggage makes a journey harder, old situations can weigh you down emotionally and spiritually.

  2. God’s blessings often require empty hands. You can’t receive the new when your grip is still tight on the old.

  3. Obedience opens doors. The disciples’ decision to leave their nets was the doorway to their destiny. What could God unlock in your life if you surrendered fully?

Let Go, Let God

Letting go doesn’t mean you failed, it means you trust God enough to move forward. The disciples didn’t know where Jesus was leading them, but they believed His word was enough. That same faith is available to you today.

So, what nets are you still holding onto? A toxic relationship? A broken dream? A fear of change? Whatever it is, I encourage you to lay it down. Release the dead weight. Trust that God’s next chapter will be greater than the last.

Because when you let go, you don’t lose... you position yourself to win.
